It was the perfect day for a picnic, as more than 700 UNM Health Sciences Center employees descended onto the North Campus plaza to participate in the second annual All Staff Recognition Celebration Friday.
“We are glad to once again be able to provide our hardworking staff with this event in appreciation for your hard work, creativity and loyalty,” said Ava Lovell, senior executive officer for the Department of Finance and Administration.
“Today is for you. Please, talk to each other. Mix and mingle. We want you to enjoy being outside and to take advantage of these festivities,” she said.
Free boxed lunches were accompanied by the music of Los Primos, a local group specializing in traditional mariachi and trio romanitco music. Employees also received turquoise wrist bands and were given the choice of getting flashdrives or ear buds. They registered for more than 50 free prizes donated by community businesses and organizations.
“We are always looking for ways to improve the work environment for employees,” Lovell told the assembled crowd. “We’ve asked for your feedback and you have given us excellent suggestions and ideas.”
In response to employee feedback, the HSC administration has already upgraded the upper plaza fountain, added rock sculptures and banco seating near Med II and installed two new tables with seating, she said.
Future projects scheduled during the next year will include more tables near the CTSC Building, a small pergola, tables and improved overhead shading near the CTS building and improvements on the main plaza pergola with new tables and improved overhead shading, she said.
