UNM Eye Clinic celebrates expansion

Patients seeking eye care now have more options at the recently expanded UNM Eye Clnic Clinic, 1600 University Blvd NE.

The clinic, which features convenient patient parking, has added exam rooms, a procedure room and surgeon available for appointment. Along with full service optometry care, the clinic will now provide full ophthalmology service, including care of chronic eye disease, preventative eye care for chronic medical diseases, and surgical care of cataracts and other common eye problems.

“Though we are growing and expanding our services, our focus always remains three-fold – to provide excellent clinical care with the best patient experience possible; outstanding education to our resident physicians; and research opportunities to continue to search for best treatments to save vision and prevent blindness,” said Dr. Arup Das, ophthalmology division chief in the UNM School of Medicine Department of Surgery,

Ophthalmologists providing care at the expanded clinic are:

  • Dr. Robert Avery
  • Dr. Rachel Davis
  • Dr. Linda Rose

They join four optometrists who practice at the clinic:

  • Randi Thompson
  • D. Jamie Dunn,
  • Scott Foutz,
  • Roy Sanchez

“Our services range from glasses and contact lens fittings and general Optometry services to sub-specialty care such as treatment of retinal disease, uveitis, ocular plastic surgery, glaucoma, corneal diseases, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology and comprehensive ophthalmology,” said eye clinic Unit Director Susan Byrd.
