The UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) is hosting a free open house to showcase its health programs and career opportunities Thursday, October 15, coinciding with UNM’s Homecoming 2015 celebration October 12-17.
Participants can learn about medical imaging in Radiologic Services, participate in an interactive occupational therapy session, see a medical simulation lab and receive a hands-on overview from Medical Laboratory Sciences about tests that help diagnose disease in patients. Tours of various HSC departments will be held 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.
Visitors also can take self-guided tours of the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC), walk through the HSC Sculpture Garden of Healing and see inside an EMS Academy ambulance. In the lobby of the Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education are exhibits chronicling the 60th anniversary of the UNM College of Nursing and the 70th anniversary of the UNM College of Pharmacy. The HSC is celebrating both anniversaries this year.
Free cake and bottled water will be available in the HSC Plaza during the organization fair from noon until 1 p.m. between Fitz Hall and the College of Nursing/College of Pharmacy building. Representatives of HSC departments and programs will provide information about health care careers, including the colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, Department of Dental Hygiene, EMS Academy, HSLIC, Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center, Physical Therapy Program, Public Health Program, Radiologic Sciences and the UNM HSC Office of Diversity.
HSC students and staff members wearing matching T-shirts will help visitors find their way around the HSC campus. For a tour description and schedule, visit our website. Public parking is available for a fee west of the Domenici Center complex in the “M” lot, located at the southwest corner of Tucker Ave. NE and Stanford Dr. NE or you can park elsewhere on the UNM campus and take a free shuttle to the “M” lot.
