Proceeds to Benefit UNM Cancer Center
Albuquerque – December 20, 2010 – The 1 in 8 Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to raising breast cancer awareness, will be hosting its inaugural 5K run in Albuquerque to benefit the University of New Mexico Cancer Center.
“The UNM Cancer Center is thrilled to be part of the inaugural 1 in 8 Foundation race in Albuquerque,” said Dr. Cheryl Willman, director and CEO of the UNM Cancer Center. “Events like the 1 in 8 race are very important in raising cancer awareness and helping the fight against cancer in New Mexico.” The race will be 5 miles long with female participants beginning before males (girl chasing style).
The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. on January 9, 2011 at the Albuquerque Academy. People participating in the race are asked to wear pink to show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors and help raise awareness for the disease.
The UNM Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of the State of New Mexico, and one of only 66 National Cancer Institute designated cancer centers in the nation. It is home to 85 board-certified oncology physicians representing every cancer specialty and more than 120 research scientists hailing from such prestigious institutions as M.D. Anderson, Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic
