Patient rooms at the UNM Cancer Research & Treatment Center will get a facelift, thanks to a generous donation by BlueCross and BlueShield of New Mexico. The insurance company has made a $50,000 commitment to renovate seven patient exam rooms in two hallways of the clinic.

"We are delighted that BlueCross and BlueShield of New Mexico is supporting the Cancer Research & Treatment Center (CRTC). Our community partners are vital to the maintenance and growth of our research programs and clinical operations," said Dr. Cheryl Willman, CEO and director of the CRTC. "Because of their generosity, we will be able to upgrade our facility so that our cancer patients can be treated in a more up-to-date and comfortable environment."

Since 1975, the UNM Cancer Research & Treatment Center has been devoted to cancer research, diagnosis and patient care. The Center, which is recognized by the National Cancer Institute, offers a full range of cancer diagnostic and treatment services.

"BlueCross and BlueShield of New Mexico has a long history of investing in our community," said Norm Becker, president of BlueCross and BlueShield of New Mexico. "It is part of our tradition and we are proud to invest in this state-of-the-art facility that provides cutting edge research and treatment to combat cancer not just here in New Mexico but also globally. The CRTC is a tremendous health care resource to our state."
