The University of New Mexico College of Nursing (UNM CoN) and Christus® St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, N.M. recently renewed its partnership to provide registered nurses (RN) in the Santa Fe area an on-site Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program.

The UNM CoN has agreed to provide the RN to BSN curriculum on site in Santa Fe through summer term 2010. The CoN will continue to provide qualified instructors to teach on site and will offer the CoN’s curriculum in consultation with faculty in Albuquerque.

Christus® St. Vincent will continue to provide classroom space for didactic instruction and will provide an on-site workspace, internet access, and monetary support to defer costs.

The RN to BSN curriculum is offered through the UNM CoN with the objective to increase the number of BSN-prepared nurses in New Mexico. Nurses gain additional knowledge, skills and professional opportunities with a BSN degree.

A BSN also qualifies nurses to continue their formal education, obtaining master’s and doctoral degrees to work in nursing education, as well as becoming nurse researchers and advanced practice nurses.

With this collaboration, more RNs in Santa Fe and the surrounding area will have the opportunity to earn their BSN, help meet the employment needs of Christus® St. Vincent, and continue their professional education.

The RN to BSN program is also available online for other RNs throughout New Mexico. For more information, call (505) 272-1186 or visit http://hsc.unm.edu/consg/.
