ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Dr. Leah Albers, from the University of New Mexico College of Nursing, was invited by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Scientific Review to be a member of the Nursing Science: Children and Families Study Section.

As part of a study section, Albers will have the opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort. Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science.

Members of a study section are selected based on their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant activities, achievements and honors.

Albers is a professor at the UNM College of Nursing and has a joint appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine. She also serves as a UNM Regents Professor. Her research area is pregnancy and childbirth.
