Cuzmar New Patient Systems Specialist

Ivette Cuzmar has joined the the UNM Health Sciences Center Community Affairs office as the office's first Patient Systems Specialist.

"Ivette brings excellent skills to this position. She is a social worker and researcher who has worked with immigrant families and Native American communities," said Leah Steimel, director of HSC Community Affairs.

As a patient systems specialist, Cuzmar will focus on analyzing systems and developing strategies to optimize patient access and effective navigation when using services at our hospital and clinics. She will also work to enhance communication between consumers and clinical entities of UNM Health Sciences Center, particularly for those whose socio-economic status, lack of insurance, Limited English Proficiency, or other characteristics may impose vulnerabilities when using our clinical services.

The mission of the Office of Community Affairs is to foster collaboration among community and HSC partners to build and sustain healthier communities across the state; promote access to services, and enhance responsiveness and accountability of HSC to patients and community members from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The office maintains a special focus on uninsured and other vulnerable populations.
