Deretic To Chair Molecular Genetics/Microbiology

Dr. Vojo Deretic has assumed the position of Chair of the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (MGM).

Dr. Deretic received both his undergraduate and graduate training from the University of Belgrade in Molecular Biology and received his postdoctoral from the University of Illinois at Chicago . Dr. Deretic later went on to hold various faculty positions at the University of Texas and the University of Michigan . In 2001, he joined the MGM faculty as a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics & Microbiology and Cell Biology & Physiology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Deretic's passion for research has focused on infectious disease, cell biology, and immunity. In addition to over 100 peer-reviewed publications under his belt, Dr. Deretic has devoted his time to numerous panels for funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health AIDS Opportunistic Infectious and Cancer and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
