Diaper Drive Dec. 1st at the Pit

UNMH seeking diaper donations

Everyone who has ever taken care of a child knows those first few years are full of laughter, tears and diapers – a lot of diapers. In fact, estimates are that in the first year a baby will go through 2,500 to 3,000 diapers.

Now you have a chance to help families in need in New Mexico by providing diapers for UNM Hospitals (UNMH) staff to give to families when they come for checkups.

“This is one thing we can take off needy parents’ plates,” says UNMH CEO Kate Becker. “For some of these families they are making a decision between buying food or diapers. We know that if we can provide the essentials, like diapers, parents can focus on spending time with their kids, engaging them and interacting with them.”

UNMH is sponsoring the Dec 1st UNM Men’s basketball game against Montana. Tipoff is at 1 p.m., and the first 100 fans who bring diapers will receive a free water bottle.

UNMH will be accepting children’s diapers in any size. If you won’t make it to the game, you can also donate online to a diaper fund.

Since this game is all about babies, it’s only fitting that the halftime be filled with adorable babies too! That’s right, the second annual diaper dash is happening at midcourt! Babies from 6-12 months will be lined up to crawl to glory. The winner will take home a swag bag full of goodies. Sign up your child here.
