Dr. Roth Receives Governor's Award for His Support of the NM EMS

School of Medicine Dean Dr. Paul Roth was recently presented with the 2002 Governor's Award for the New Mexico Emergency Medicine System.

"He has been a friend and advocate for the NM EMS system for over twenty years," said New Mexico Secretary of Health Alex Valdez in presenting the award to Roth. Valdez pointed out that Roth was one of the nation's first full professors of Emergency Medicine.

"Paul literally has lead New Mexico to the very forefront of disaster medicine and has been similarly active in the Urban Search and Rescue field. He was the first and for many years the only physician on the board of the National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue, a program he continues to support," said Valdez. "He has been a member of the State EMS Advisory Committee and was instrumental in the growth and development of the EMS Academy. There is no doubt that he has left an indelible mark on our system, our providers and countless lives that he has touched over the years," said Valdez.
