Dungan Named COP Distinguished Alumnus

The University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy (UNM COP) recently honored Neal Dungan with the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. Dungan graduated from the UNM COP in 1979.

An Artesia, N.M. native, Dungan has spent the majority of his career in southern New Mexico working in community pharmacies. He is the co-owner of La Tienda Pharmacy and owner of Rx Consultants in Carlsbad.

In addition to serving as a community pharmacist, Dungan has provided southern New Mexico communities home health care services that have included home IV services, pain management, home oncology therapy and several other at-home therapies and health care. Dungan also introduced state-of-the-art compounding to southern New Mexico through his pharmacy practice and pioneered immunization services that continue to be a large part of his pharmacy practice and the practice of many pharmacists in New Mexico today.

Dungan served as president of the New Mexico Pharmacists Association in 1996 and was awarded the Bowl of Hygeia Award, the Ernie Welch Award and the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award by the New Mexico Pharmacists Association.

With the Distinguished Alumni Award, the UNM COP recognizes Dungan for his distinguished record of accomplishment in community pharmacy, consulting services and professional commitment to the UNM COP and pharmacy practice in New Mexico.
