Albuquerque, N.M.-On Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 6 p.m., the Eighth Annual Jeff Apodaca Celebration of Life Gala will be held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The festivities will include dinner, dancing, a live auction, and scholarship awards. Eligible recipients for the scholarship are pediatric cancer survivors who are New Mexico residents, and are attending a four-year school of higher education.

Apodaca understands the unique challenges kids with cancer must overcome in order to triumph over their illness. Twenty-eight years ago, with the help of UNM Children's Hospital, Apodaca won the battle against a rare and malignant form of soft tissue muscle sarcoma. He has since devoted his philanthropic efforts to support UNM Children's Hospital.

"We cannot thank Jeff enough for his vision and dedication which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars being donated to UNM Children's Hospital," said Hazel Tull-Leach, Executive Director, of UNM Children's Hospital's Development Office.

UNM Children's Hospital, Barbara and Bill Richardson Pavilion is the largest public works capital improvement project in the history of the state of New Mexico. The 489,705 square-foot addition is scheduled for completion April 2007.

Tickets to this event are available, but space is limited. For more information, please call 505-858-1337.
