Giammo appointed to the Board of the Association of American Medical Colleges' Group on Institutional Advancement.

 

Sam Giammo, Director of Public Affairs for the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, has recently been appointed to an At-Large position on the Group on Institutional Advancement (GIA) for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  Giammo has been a member of the GIA since 1997, when he joined UNM Health Sciences Center, and has served as a track chair, presenter, moderator and facilitator for numerous GIA meetings, before his At- Large appointment to the GIA board.

Giammo, who was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievemet Award from New Mexico Public Relations Society (NMPRSA), has 35 years experience in the public relations field, which includes 27 years in various positions a U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Officer, as well as three years with Jacobs Engineering Group, in Albuquerque. 

GIA chair Brad Choate said, "Giammo directs one of the state's busiest and most visible public affairs offices, managing public relations activities for UNM's six hospitals, the School of Medicine, and Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy.  In this capacity , he oversees all media relations, community relations, and public and internal communication at one of New Mexico's highest-profile healthcare entities."

Giammo was elected to the At-Large position during the National Professional Development Conference (NPDC) in March.  He will take office in July, and continue on through the planning for the next year's annual meeting.  Giammo will be working with other elected officers to work with members of the GIA steering committee and address concerns through services and professional development meeting and programming, as well as contributing to the planning pf topics and sessions and annual meeting.
