UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) web site is now smartphone compatible with a new version of the site designed for mobile devices. The upgrade enables HSC faculty and staff members to quickly navigate and effectively access important site information while “on the fly.” “People are on the go and increasingly accessing information through handheld devices,” explains Kevin Wiley, web administrator for the HSC. “Our mobile site will work on the top handheld devices on the market today, including: Blackberry Storm and Curve, Motorola’s Droid, and Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.” The new site marks the Health Science Library and Informatics Center’s increased emphasis on using mobile technologies to help students, faculty and staff find the information and resources they need. Links to the UNM directory, HSC Calendar, classroom schedules, HSC webmail, social media, library resources (such as the online catalog, PubMed, CINAHL and Dynamed) and others are live and active. Future additions will include interactive campus maps and more library resources for faculty and students. Wiley says with increased demand for mobile-compatible web sites, his staff gathered existing resources and evaluated numerous other university sites to help engineer the conversion into a simplified interface. The URL for the mobile site ishttp://m.health.unm.edu. For more information on the HSC mobile web site call 272-3683
