Interim Dean for UNM College of Pharmacy Announced

Dr. Paul Roth, UNM executive vice president for Health Sciences, has announced that Dr. Donald Godwin, associate dean for professional and graduate education at the UNM College of Pharmacy, will now serve as the interim dean for the College of Pharmacy.

The effective date of Godwin’s term will be July 1, 2010, in order to provide a transition period with current dean Dr. John A. Pieper, whose last day is July 23.

Pieper, who has served as the UNM College of Pharmacy dean since 2002, has accepted the position of president for the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri.

Godwin is expected to serve as interim dean for up to one year during which a national search will be conducted and a new dean brought onboard.

Dr. Nancy Ridenour, dean, UNM College of Nursing, will chair the search committee, and the selection of members of that committee will be finalized in the next few weeks. The search committee will be comprised of approximately 12 individuals.

“I am honored to be selected for the position of interim dean to continue the work of Dean John Pieper,” said Godwin. “We have made great strides in education, research and patient care, and I will work to continue the betterment of the College while we transition to a new dean. I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students of the College of Pharmacy in my new role over the next year.”
