Dr. Denece Kesler to Serve American Board of Preventive Medicine

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Denece Kesler, M.D., M.P.H., has been voted Chair-Elect of the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), where she will serve for one year and then four years as ABPM Chairperson.

Kesler is a professor in Internal Medicine at UNM’s School of Medicine and Board-Certified in Preventive Medicine. She also is director of UNM’s Center for Occupational and Environmental Health Promotion and its Preventive Medicine Training Program, among other responsibilities.

The ABPM, one of 24 medical specialty member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties, grants and maintains board certification to physicians qualified in Preventive Medicine. Preventive Medicine examines individual and community health through three specialty areas: public health and general preventive medicine; occupational medicine; and aerospace medicine.

Kesler has been on the ABPM Board for four years, and currently is serving as chair of the certification committee. “As chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, I plan to promote the specialty of preventive medicine and to serve the needs of those physicians who are board-certified in preventive medicine to the best of my ability,” Kesler says.
