FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jeff Apodaca understands the challenges children with cancer must face to triumph over the illness. Twenty-eight years ago, Apodaca, with help from the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital, won his own battle against a rare and malignant form of soft muscle sarcoma and now with his Celebration of Life Scholarship Apodaca is helping fellow cancer survivors get a head start on their new futures with a good education.

The 2006 Jeff Apodaca, Celebration of Life Scholarship applications are now being accepted and all applications must be submitted by Aug. 11. The winner will receive $5,000 to go toward tuition and books. Applicants eligible are pediatric cancer survivors attending a four-year college or university in New Mexico.

The annual scholarship will be presented at the Celebration of Life Gala fundraiser on Aug. 26. The winner must be present at the gala to accept the award and will be notified one week prior to the event.
