UNM Medical Group Chief Operations Officer Jill Klar has been appointed interim chief executive officer to replace departing CEO Anthony Masciotra.
Masciotra is leaving the state this month to take on a senior leadership role at Oregon Health & Sciences University, where he will serve as chief executive officer of the OHSU Faculty Practice Plan and senior associate dean for clinical practice in the OHSU School of Medicine.
Masciotra, who has worked in roles at the UNM Cancer Center and UNM Medical Group for the past 12 years, has served as UNM Medical Group CEO since 2011. Klar's appointment is effective June 23.
“As we send him congratulations on the well-deserved new opportunity and thank him for his many contributions to the University of New Mexico, we are also sad to see Anthony go,“ said Michael Richards, MD, board chair of the UNM Medical Group and executive physician-in-chief of the UNM Health System. “I am grateful to Jill for accepting this responsibility, and I am completely confident in her ability to lead the Medical Group during this interim period.”
Before joining the Medical Group in January 2016 as chief operating officer, Klar was COO for ABQ Health Partners. She has also held leadership positions with Lovelace Health System, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico and Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque.
“I am honored to have been appointed to this position,” Klar said. “UNM holds a unique position within New Mexico health care. The Medical Group is well positioned to continue to serve our organization at a high level and to play a significant role in the future of health care for all of our state’s residents.”
The UNM Medical Group, a not-for-profit corporation organized in 2007, is comprised of more than 1,100 clinical practitioners representing more than 150 specialties. These providers are the exclusive caregivers to the state’s only academic medical center – UNM Hospital. UNM Medical Group also is the faculty practice for the UNM School of Medicine and is a multi-specialty group practice that operates 14 clinics serving some 45,000 patients. The group also provides care at the 76 clinics of UNM Hospital.
