John Pieper, Pharm.D. Honored as "APHA-ASP Outstanding Dean"

The APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists Outstanding Dean Award was established in 2004 to recognize a school or college of pharmacy dean who has made significant contributions to the APhA-ASP Chapter and promoted with distinction the welfare of student pharmacists through various community service, leadership and professional activities.

2005 marks the 36th Year of the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). Currently, more than 24,500 student pharmacists from each of the 89 schools and colleges of pharmacy nationwide are members of APhA. The mission of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists is to be the collective voice of student pharmacists, to provide opportunities for professional growth, and to envision and actively promote the future of pharmacy.

APhA-ASP has played a key role in helping students navigate through pharmacy school, explore careers in pharmacy, and connect with others in the profession.

"Dean Pieper's approach to pharmacy leadership changes pharmacy school from not only an educational institution but also into a springboard for a career of professional leadership," wrote one student in a nominating letter for Dr. Pieper.

Pieper came to UNM to assume the position as dean of the College of Pharmacy in 2002.
