Legislators to Tour UNM Cancer Research Facility



WHAT:                      State representatives and senators from Bernalillo County will tour the UNM Cancer Research Facility, getting a firsthand look at such areas as the genomics lab and other state-of-the art research labs. The group also will tour the New Mexico Tumor Registry, which since 1969 has been a source of complete statewide cancer data for two of the nation's largest minority groups, American Indians and Hispanics.

WHERE:                    The UNM Cancer Research Facility
                                    2325 Camino de Salud NE
                                    (Just west of UNM Hospitals) 


WHO:                         Cosette Wheeler, Ph.D., professor of molecular genetics and microbiology in the UNM School Medicine and the lead principal investigator for UNM in a groundbreaking, multi-center HPV vaccine study, will address the group. Cheryl L. Willman, MD, Director of the UNM Cancer Research & Treatment Center, will make opening remarks. Other doctors and researchers also will be on hand to answer questions.
