Santa Fe, NM – Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District will visit Cuba on Friday, May 27 to see first-hand the work of the Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities project. The Prevention Research Center at the UNM Health Sciences Center, works with communities to support community actions such as the Step into Cuba initiatives that encourage walking and promote increased access to safe places to walk to prevent childhood obesity. Luján will hike through Village of Cuba St. Francis of Assisi Park with community volunteers and children participating in the project. He will also visit the site of a community backcountry trail under development.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities is a national program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that promotes active living and healthy eating policies and environmental change initiatives to support healthier communities for children and families. Cuba is one of 50 communities across the country selected as a Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities site.
