McLaughlin Interim Chair of Emergency Medicine

UNM Health Sciences Center Chancellor Paul Roth, M.D., has announced that Steven McLaughlin, M.D., has been appointed as Interim Chair of the UNM School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. McLaughlin is a Regents Professor and currently serves as Vice Chair for Education within the Department of Emergency Medicine and as Interim Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education and Simulation within the School of Medicine.

“Please join me in extending our enthusiastic support to Dr. McLaughlin as he assumes this critical role for the Department and the School of Medicine,” said Chancellor Roth in making the announcement.

Dr. McLaughlin received his M.D. from Mayo Medical School and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at UNM. His professional interests include education, human simulation, toxicology, wilderness medicine, airway management, procedural sedation, oral hypoglycemic poisoning, and ultrasound.

He replaces former Emergency Medicine Chair, Michael Richards, M.D., M.P.A., who recently became Executive Physician-in-Chief for the UNM Health System.
