Mental Health Ethics Forum Scheduled

The UNM School of Medicine Institute for Ethics will present a special Ethics, Law & Medicine (ELM) Forum: "Mental Health Decision Making" on Friday, January 19. Presentations and discussions are planned surrounding the new New Mexico Advanced Directives for Mental Health Care Treatment Decisions Act, the proposed "Kendra's Law" as well as the New Mexico Mental Health Code and how it is impacted by the new law and the proposed law/ordinance.

Presenters will include Nancy Koenigsberg, Esg., Director for the New Mexico Protection and Advocacy, and UNM Professor of Psychiatry, Steven Jenkusky, MD. Past attendees have included patients, students (medical, legal, nursing, allied health), residents, faculty and staff, and professionals of lawyers and doctors. The forum is free and open to the community.

The forum is scheduled for noon - 1:30 p.m. in the Basic Medical Sciences Building Lecture Hall room 203 on the UNM North Campus. Parking is available in the School of Medicine parking lot on Tucker, NE between the School of Medicine and the Law School , or in UNM Hospitals Patient/Visitor parking structures.
