Class is cancelled for 270 UNM College of Pharmacy (CoP) students Friday, October 19, so they can engage in community outreach health efforts in central and southern New Mexico. The UNM CoP’s inauguralCommunity Outreach Daywill place pharmacy students in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces. The entire cadre of Doctor of Pharmacy students from the college will interact in:
Ø Cardiovascular Health Screenings and Fairs
Ø Elementary School Poison Prevention Presentations
Ø Prescription Drug Abuse Education
“As the pharmacy profession evolves into a much more significant clinical role, it’s important that UNM College of Pharmacy students experience supervised public health events with actual patients who have real health questions,” says Megan Thompson, Pharm.D., CoP associate professor of Pharmacy Practice. “This is really unprecedented. Faculty have never cancelled class for the entire college for something like this.” Below are the scheduled locations and events.
