The HSC Prevention Research Center is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Health and the New Mexico Medical Society for a series of presentations aimed at facilitating the provision of clinical prevention services in New Mexcio medical practices.

The first presentation in the series will be "Putting Prevention into Practice New Mexico's Clinical Prevention Intitiative," presented by Dr. Richard Kozoll, chair of the CPI Committee. The presentation, to be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 4 p.m. in the College of Nursing/Pharmacy auditorium. It will provide an overview of the process used to develop the initiative and a description of its highest priority intervention: pneumococcal vaccination of adults.

Other talks will be presented the last Wednesday of each month (same time and place) until the six-month series is complete. Topics will include:

Tobacco avoidance and cessation counseling services;

Mammography screening and follow-up; Colorectal cancer screening and follow-up; Sexually transmitted chlamydia screening and treatment;

Problem alcohol use detection and intervention;

Childhood immunization.

The UNM Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (Prevention Research Center) is arranging for this important colloquia to be available to UNM faculty, staff, students and other interested parties.
