Regional Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, Marjorie McColl Petty, J.D., M.S., representing U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sibelius, will speak at the conclusion of the UNM health Sciences Center “Vision 2020” Symposium on Wednesday, September 15.

Petty’s remarks will focus on Academic Health Centers' Role in Healthcare Reform and Reflections on Vision 2020. She will speak at 5:15 p.m. in the Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education auditorium at the conclusion of the afternoon.

“Vision 2020” is the UNM Health Sciences Center’s new strategic goal statement. Vision 2020 is ambitious and will change the way healthcare is provided though out New Mexico. The goal: "Working with community partners, UNM HSC will help New Mexico make more progress in health and health equity than any other state by 2020."

Faculty, staff and students will be joining community, state and national leaders on Wednesday afternoon, September 15, to discuss how to incorporate the Health Sciences Center new "Vision 2020" goal.

The kick-off event, sponsored by the Office for Community Health, will run from noon-6 p.m. and feature interactive poster presentations to address themes ranging from healthcare reform to social determinants of health and health equity.
