Renowned Author, Physician to Visit Cancer Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDr. Siddharta Mukherjee to Give Lecture and Host Book Signing of Nationally Acclaimed Biography of CancerAlbuquerque – January 5, 2010 – The University of New Mexico Cancer Center and Bookworks, a local independent bookstore, will host a free public lecture and book signing event for Dr. Siddharta Mukherjee, author, assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University, and a staff cancer physician at Columbia University Medical Center. On January 13 at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Mukherjee will give a lecture and sign his nationally acclaimed bookThe Emperor of all Maladieswhich has recently been named one of the “10 Best Books of the Year” byThe New York Timesand has received rave reviews from theWashington Post,The New Yorker,O the Oprah Magazine, and more.

TheEmperor of all Maladiesis a biography of cancer documented through the perspective of people who have battled the disease, both patients and peers of Dr. Mukherjee. The book gives a descriptive history of how cancer treatment therapies have evolved and how cancer stigmas have shifted throughout the years. In addition, Mukherjee provides a look into the future of cancer treatment options and aims to demystify and increase the understanding of cancer. “The UNM Cancer Center is thrilled to host Dr. Mukherjee, a renowned cancer physician and author who plays an integral role in the fight against cancer,” said Dr. Willman, director and CEO of the UNM Cancer Center.

The UNM Cancer Center will also host a coffee and dessert reception after the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
