Sandoval Regional Medical Center Earns Four Stars in National Hospital Comparison
The University of New Mexico Sandoval County Regional Medical Center, Inc. (SRMC) recently received a Four-Star quality rating from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the federal agency’s Hospital Quality Initiative.
The CMS national rating system uses a variety of tools to help hospitals improve the quality of care and ranks their current treatment performance so consumers can easily see and compare hospital care.
“We are honored to receive this ranking,” said SRMC President and CEO Jamie Silva-Steele. “Our providers and staff understand that it is based on implementing best practices into daily standard work, and that it is our patients who benefit from our efforts.”
According to the CMS website at medicare.gov/hospitalcompare, the agency summarizes up to 51 measures across seven aspects of quality, including patient experience and effectiveness of care. The rating system is designed to show how well a hospital performs in treating common conditions such as heart attack or pneumonia.
"SRMC is an important component to the Health Sciences Center's mission of improving the health of all New Mexicans and we applaud the recognition they have received through this award," says Paul B. Roth, MD, MS, UNM’s Chancellor for Health Sciences.
An Albuquerque native, Silva-Steele has more 35 years of progressive experience in an academic health care environment. Prior to becoming SRMC’s president and CEO in June 2014, she served as the facility’s interim chief operating officer.
Under her leadership, SRMC has received a number of local, state and national awards. The recognition has ranged from awards for best practices, patient satisfaction to quality of care.
“Our providers and staff are backbone of this organization and responsible for our success,” Silva-Steele says. “I appreciate all that they do every single day in making sure we are putting patients and families first.”
SRMC is located at 3001 Broadmoor NE in Rio Rancho. It includes an emergency department, a state-of-the-art radiology and women’s imaging department, primary care and specialty care clinics and physical and occupational therapy.
