SOM's Rayburn Receives Distinguished Alumnus Award

William F. Rayburn M.D., professor and chair, UNM School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, recently received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.  The Distinguished Alumnus award is given to one person each year of the more than 4000 graduates who provided direction and contributed to the medical profession.

A prolific author, Dr. Rayburn has written nearly 400 peer-review journal articles and abstracts for national scientific meetings dealing primarily with drug effects on the developing fetus and on induction of labor.  He has also authored or edited several textbooks and book chapters, dealing principally with drugs during pregnancy or with obstetrics in general.

Remaining active clinically, Dr. Rayburn continues to supervise or privately care for many complicated pregnant patients.  He has been named among the Best Doctors in America.  Dr. Rayburn also serves on many national advisory and editorial boards and as a member or officer of numerous distinguished medical societies.  He is the recipient of several awards for his teaching and scientific work and has been funded continuously for his research.
