Tennis Standouts Sampras and Querrey to Play at The Pit

Proceeds from the exhibition will benefit the UNM Children’s Hospital

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - On Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., Hall of Fame tennis player Pete Sampras and rising tennis star Sam Querrey will compete in an exhibition match at The Pit as part of the ProLink Tennis Classic presented by the New Mexico Sports Authority. All proceeds from the exhibition will go to the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital.

ProLink and the New Mexico Sports Authority are offering UNM students, staff and faculty, UNM Hospitals staff, and UNM Health Sciences Center staff and faculty a buy one ticket and get one ticket free special. Special ticket pricing is for the $28.50 tickets only. Tickets can be purchased at the UNM Ticket Box Office and ticket buyers must present a UNM ID.

Prior to the Sampras/Querrey match, local area tennis players will take part in a shootout hosted by American professional tennis player Murphy Jensen. The shootout will feature "Battle of the Sexes" with area juniors, "Up-Down" featuring wheelchair athletes with players from the Coleman Vision Championships, and mixed doubles featuring members from the UNM men’s and women’s tennis team.

Sampras is a former World No. 1 American tennis player. In his 15-year career, he won a record 14 Grand Slam men’s singles titles in 52 appearances. Sampras has won seven singles titles at Wimbledon and has won five singles titles at the U.S. Open.

Querrey is an up-and-coming professional American tennis player who just reached the round of 16 at the U.S. Open before falling in four sets to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal.
