UNM Announces New Department of Dental Medicine

The UNM School of Medicine has announced that a new Department of Dental Medicine was recently approved by the UNM faculty senate.

The department will be a combination of existing divisions of Dental Hygiene and Dental Services which have been housed under the Department of Surgery.

Gary Cuttrell, DDS, JD, division chief for Dental Services, will serve as chair of the department, while Demetra Logothetis, RDH, division chief for Dental Hygiene, will be vice chair.

“Having a dedicated department to oral health care will allow UNM to expand within dental education,” said Cuttrell. The department will give us the opportunity to offer more specialty programs, like pediatric dentistry, and it will open the doors to more research opportunities.”
