UNM Appoints New Director of Interprofessional Education

Heidi Rogers to Coordinate Training Programs

Heidi Honegger Rogers, DNP, FNP-C, has been appointed director of Interprofessional Education at The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

Rogers is a family nurse practitioner, advanced practice holistic nurse and assistant professor in the UNM College of Nursing. She leads both the evidence-informed practice and the theoretical foundations courses in the master of nursing degree program and is a faculty member in the doctor of nursing practice program. She is also the student success coordinator for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse programs.

“The Interprofessional Education program is collaborating on important, innovative and cool educational experiences for all our students,” Rogers said. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with faculty, staff and students from across the HSC campus to support the mission of interprofessional collaboration, as well as improved models of patient-centered care.”

Rogers serves on the curriculum leadership committee for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and is the editor of the American Holistic Nurses Association Research Newsletter. She is also active in her hometown of Los Alamos, volunteering with the Pajarito Ski Patrol and serving on the Los Alamos County Environmental Sustainability Board.

Rogers has a BA from the University of Colorado and received her BSN and MSN from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Colorado.

She has been a family nurse practitioner for 20 years in Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Española, working with interprofessional teams and partnering with patients and communities to improve health and health care delivery models with vulnerable and underserved populations. Rogers currently works in an integrative clinical practice in Santa Fe as part of her UNM position.

Amy Levi, PhD, Roger’s predecessor as IPE director, recently stepped down from that position to assume the role of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the HSC.
