UNM’s physical therapy program is expanding in the wake of a new state law that allows patients direct access to physical therapists. A new student-run clinic is now recruiting patients who have tapped out their health benefits or don’t have current therapy insurance coverage.

When Barbara Bradley Fuller graduated from the UNM Physical Therapy program in 1976 she was one of three members of the fledgling program’s first class. In the 40 years since, the program has educated more than 700 physical therapists, 75 percent of whom practice in New Mexico.
