In his many decades as a physician, clinical scientist and administrator, Philip Eaton, MD, touched the lives of many patients and left a lasting impact on the health sciences community. “I focused on moving us to directions where we could use the creativity of research, teaching and patient care to make an impact on the people of New Mexico,” says Eaton, whose career at UNM began in the late 1960s when he became an assistant professor in the UNM School of Medicine.

UNM’s Dental Ambulatory Surgical Center opened in 2011 at the UNM Health Sciences Center to handle complex outpatient dental procedures under a number of circumstances, including those for special needs kids, anxious patients, wisdom teeth extractions and patients with complex dental needs requiring multiple trips to a traditional dental office. As 3-year-old Lindsay Winfrey and her parents discovered, the center's services can be life-changing.
